POP ROC

So, you know how you want to be just like Eric Stoltz’s character in Pulp Fiction? Don’t lie. Ever since you saw that scene with him eating the Fruit Brute, you’ve been obsessed with sugar cereals (esp. monster cereals). Well now, it is no dream!

Head on down to POP ROC, on East Avenue, near Alexander Street, and you can eat comics and read cereal to your heart’s content.

Look at all the cereals!

We ordered some Fifth Frame “king pin” coffee. There were some issues with the maker, so we got them a bit late, but we managed to kill the time by looking at the comics, chatting at a table, admiring the art and toys, and (some of us younger ones) playing with stuff in the back room. Oh yeah, there’s a back room. We didn’t take a picture because there were kids playing there and it would have looked weird. But there’s arcades back there, too. And booths.

You order at the counter. There are menus. Check the menus, because there’s more than just the (admittedly awesome) cereals you see on the shelf.

Along the left side of the menu, as you can see, there are cereal combos. Bo tried one. Pat tried one. Greg like made his own.

Bo’s ‘Merican Pie was very homey-tasting. The Apple Jacks (They don’t taste like apples!) went along well with the Cinnamon Toast Crunch, but the caramel is what really made it a meal. A July meal. A Fourth of July meal, where you’re sitting on a rocking chair on a wrap-around porch, and the tables are decorated with that red and white checker pattern. The fireworks are later, but for now you’re just relaxing with your bowl of cereal. The only downside Bo noticed: the two cereals used are low-density, so there was lots of leftover milk compared to Greg and Pat! Maybe he should have asked for seconds?

Greg thought he was smarter than everyone; he ordered Cocoa Krispies with banana. Banana?? What is he, some kind of healthy person? Although, to be fair, Coco is a monkey, so he’s probably into bananas, too.

He always gets the bowl of Cocoa Krispies.

The chocolate and banana combo, tried and true, was fully realized in this cereal combo. Maybe, in future, there will be a regular menu item. “The Greg,” or something.

Finally, Pat’s “The Pop Roc” was loud AF! Literally and figuratively. Just look:

And listen:

Fruity pebbles. Rice Krispies. Pop Rocks. Marshmallows. We are all surprised Pat is not dead from this, just like how Little Mikey died: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/death-of-little-mikey/

Or did he?

Or did Pat? I guess if he comes back as a zombie, we’ll know. Or we won’t. Because he will have eaten us. Or, at least, our brains, depending on what kind of zombie we’re talking here.

Miscellany:

Join the club! Cast Magic Missile!

Milk and sugar come from these things

They take the dingle bop and they push it through the grumbo, where the fleeb is rubbed against it. It’s important that the fleeb is rubbed, because the fleeb has all the fleeb juice.

There are Misfit Donuts here, for sale, too, at the counter, for eating, but, we didn’t, you know, get any, today.

HOURS:    Monday thru Saturday 8am – 9pm     Sunday 8am – 6pm

Don’t Miss: The cereal combos! Try ’em all! Or, at least, try ’em most.

Pro Tip: Parking can be tricky. There’s a parking lot around the corner where, apparently, if you put a card in your windshield, you won’t get towed.

Parking card. Also, coffee.
