“OK, but only if they have great food,” I responded wryly. He smirked back at me, wryly. I didn’t know wry until we awryived.

“1511. That’s what she’d written on the inside of the matchbook. But why? And wherefore?”

Mini-pro tip (in the caption of a photo, mid-review! We’re crazy!): The specials menu scrolls. Bo saw an item, and when the waitress came, it was gone. Then, a moment later, it returned.

“In this highly readable companion to his nightly CNBC television series, The Big Idea, former ad man Deutsch profiles the entrepreneurs who have visited his show and the lessons he’s learned from them. The author relishes stories of little people—mothers, students, retirees and former screw ups—who had only a good idea and built multimillion-dollar businesses without MBAs or sometimes the support of their friends and families—individuals like Lisa Lloyd, a single mother with a poverty-line wage who borrowed money and sold her car to create her first batch of plastic hair clips that created elaborate braids with little fuss. After receiving positive encouragement from local salons, Lloyd licensed the product to a national barrette manufacturer, where it has enjoyed $30 million in sales to date—and made Lloyd a rich woman. Entrepreneurial success stories are complemented by practical advice and resources for building a business. The author’s enthusiasm and interest in his readers is apparent on every page, distinguishing this book from the dry, disinterested business guides that fill the small business startup bookshelves.”

Chocolate banana waffle.

Let’s talk about the chocolate banana waffle. The waffle was doughy and full-tasting. It was like, remember teddy grahams? Remember how there were different flavors? Hang on a sec, we’ll show you:

So it tasted a lot like the chocolate teddy grahams. Kinda chocolate, but kinda not. It had… just… a soupçon… of bleached flour. An oeuvre, if you will (you won’t; that’s not what that word means). The banana was just a sliced banana. The whipped cream was whipped cream. Bo put his real maple syrup on it, and that gave it an unmistakable maple syrup flavor.

Dave got eggs, potatoes, and a muffin of the English variety

The English muffins were more English than muffin, the homefries were homey but not fried, and the eggs were eggcellent. Service was great though! Lots of coffee refills!

It’s not the diner-est. Nor is it the diner-least. It’s a diner. It’s not necessarily finer than other diners, but it isn’t less finer either.
